Scenario:

Vale acquired the Onça Puma Project in December 2005. Located in the municipal district of Ourilândia do Norte, in the South-East of the state of Pará, North of Brazil, the Project aims at extracting the deposits of “lateritic” nickel located in the Onça and Puma mountain ranges. In order to process nickel train cars carry the “loadout” to and from the mine location. It was important for Vale to be able to know that the cars were full, empty or what level the residual was, and there was also a concern that people would attempt to ride the trains.

SSPW created a simple but robust application that used a SICK Line scanner to build a 3D image of both the cars and their contents. Sixth Sense completed the job on time and without a hitch. Due to the nature of the climate and the terrain in this region Sixth Sense had to ensure that our system was up to the rugged environment.
